Bertazzoni Freezers CHECK CONDENSER Error: Condenser clean reminder
What Does Check condenser Mean? The Check condenser reminder — shown as “Check Cond” on most Bertazzoni freezer column displays — is a routine maintenance notification built into the control software of the Professional Series and Master Series freezer columns. It fires every six months to remind you to clean the finned condenser coil behind […]
Quick Assessment
Answer to continue safely
Is it safe to keep using?
Yes. This is a routine maintenance reminder, not a cooling fault. The freezer is operating normally. Clean the condenser at your earliest convenience to prevent gradual efficiency loss.
Can I reset the code?
Yes. Hold the Enter button for 3 seconds after cleaning to reset the six-month maintenance counter and clear the reminder from the display.
When to stop immediately?
Stop if you notice: A "Freezer too warm" alarm appears alongside or shortly after the condenser reminder — fouling has already degraded cooling performance.
Symptoms You May Notice
Compressor run cycles are longer and more frequent than usual
A fouled condenser coil forces the compressor to run harder and longer to maintain the freezer set point. In a busy kitchen you may notice the unit running almost continuously during warm weather — a sign the coil needs attention.
Maintenance reminder displays on the control panel
The control board displays "Check Cond" (or similar wording) after the six-month maintenance interval has elapsed. An optional audible tone may accompany the reminder depending on notification settings.
Possible Causes
Dust and debris accumulated on condenser fins
Household dust, pet hair, and kitchen grease collect on the finned condenser coil behind the toe-kick grille over time, insulating the fins and reducing heat-rejection capacity.
DIY PossibleSix-month maintenance counter elapsed
The control board's built-in interval timer has reached six months since the last manual reset via the Enter button, triggering the scheduled reminder.
DIY PossibleSafe Checks You Can Do
-
1
Remove the toe-kick grille and clean the condenser coil
Pull the toe-kick cover from the base of the freezer column (clips on most models — no tools required). Use a soft-bristle condenser brush and vacuum to remove all visible dust and debris from the finned coil. Replace the grille.
Work from inside outward with the brush to push debris into the open room rather than deeper into the coil.
-
2
Reset the maintenance counter
After cleaning, press and hold the Enter button on the control panel for 3 seconds until the reminder clears and the counter restarts its six-month countdown.
On some Bertazzoni freezer column models the reset is accessed via the Settings menu — check your user manual if the Enter-button hold does not clear the reminder.
When to Call a Professional
Contact a qualified technician if:
- Compressor run times remain abnormally long even after a thorough condenser clean — condenser fan motor or refrigerant charge may need professional inspection
