Bertazzoni Dishwashers F41 Error: Temperature rise too slow

What Does F41 Mean on a Bertazzoni Dishwasher? Error code F41 means the dishwasher detected no meaningful temperature rise within 10 minutes of the heating phase starting. The Swedish-engineered heating circuit design on Bertazzoni’s dishwasher platform is highly efficient, so F41 indicates either a genuine component fault or an unusually cold water supply. The code […]

Quick Assessment

Answer to continue safely

Is it safe to keep using?

Maybe. The dishwasher can be run but wash temperatures are below specification, meaning dishes are not being properly sanitized and detergent performance is reduced. Resolve the fault before relying on the dishwasher for sanitation-sensitive loads.

Can I reset the code?

Yes. Power-cycle at the circuit breaker for 60 seconds, pre-flush hot water to the supply line, and attempt a fresh cycle. If F41 was triggered by a cold-water start rather than component failure, it may not recur.

When to stop immediately?

Stop if you notice: F41 appears on every single cycle regardless of incoming water temperature, A burning or electrical smell is detected during the heating phase.

Symptoms You May Notice

Wash cycle stalls mid-program with water in the tub and no progress

The machine fills and begins circulating but then stops progressing through the cycle. Water sits in the tub and the display shows F41 after the heating phase fails to register any temperature rise within 10 minutes.

Dishes have grease and food film after a cycle indicating cold-water wash

On cycles that technically complete despite low temperatures, detergent enzymes never activate properly, leaving oily residue and food particles on dishes and glassware.

Cycle takes unusually long before aborting or completing

The board waits the full 10-minute window before logging F41. On borderline cases the cycle may appear to run but deliver consistently poor cleaning results without displaying the code every time.

Possible Causes

1

Heating element scaled over or open-circuit

Heavy calcium scale on the element surface acts as an insulator, dramatically reducing heat transfer into the water. In extreme cases the element can develop hot spots and eventually fail open-circuit. Regular use of dishwasher salt and rinse aid reduces scale accumulation.

2

Thermistor reading incorrectly — PCB believes water is already hot

If the NTC thermistor has drifted to a resistance value that corresponds to a higher temperature than actual, the board may cut heating early or never start it, believing the setpoint has been reached.

3

Circulation pump not running during heating phase

The element heats water flowing past it via the circulation pump. If the pump is stopped or severely underperforming, water becomes stationary around the element, which then overheat-trips without raising the bulk water temperature.

Safe Checks You Can Do

These checks are safe for homeowners. No disassembly required. Do not remove panels or access internal components.
  1. 1

Flush hot water to the tap before starting a cycle

Run the kitchen hot tap for 60–90 seconds until the water is hot to touch. This primes the supply line with warm water, giving the element less work to do at cycle start — particularly useful in winter.

This is the single most effective user-side step for borderline F41 faults caused by cold incoming water in winter.

  2. 2

Check the dishwasher salt and rinse aid reservoirs

Open the door and check that the salt reservoir cap (bottom of the tub, typically a round screw cap) is full, and that the rinse aid indicator is not showing empty. Running without salt accelerates element scale buildup in hard-water areas.

In very hard water areas, scale can build up on the element within 6–12 months of running without salt. Once scale is heavy, cleaning it off requires a professional descale or element replacement.

  3. 3

Run a descale cycle if available

Some Bertazzoni dishwasher models include a machine-care or descale program. Alternatively, run an empty cycle at the highest temperature with a dishwasher descaler tablet (not washing-up liquid) in the detergent drawer to address moderate scale deposits.

Use a purpose-made dishwasher descaler — not citric acid or vinegar — to avoid damaging rubber seals in the pump assembly.

When to Call a Professional

Contact a qualified technician if:

  • F41 persists after hot-water flushing and salt reservoir is confirmed full
  • Heating element resistance tests open-circuit on a multimeter
  • Thermistor resistance at room temperature is significantly outside the 60 kΩ specification
