Bertazzoni Dishwashers F7 Error: Drain fault

What Does F7 Mean on a Bertazzoni Dishwasher? Error code F7 means the dishwasher failed to drain the sump within the allowed time. The control board on Bertazzoni’s ASKO-platform dishwashers — including models in the Professional Series (DW24PR, DW24XT) and Master Series — monitors how long the drain pump runs during each drain phase. If […]

Answer to continue safely

Is it safe to keep using?

Maybe. Running further cycles with standing water in the tub risks washing dishes in dirty water and accelerating drain pump wear. The dishwasher will not sanitize effectively. Address the drain fault before running further cycles.

Can I reset the code?

Yes. After clearing any drain blockage, power-cycle at the circuit breaker for 60 seconds. Select a cycle and listen for the drain pump activating during the initial drain phase. If water clears within 90 seconds, the fault is resolved.

When to stop immediately?

Stop if you notice: The drain pump makes a grinding or burning sound and then goes silent, Water level in the tub continues to rise rather than drain during the drain phase.

Symptoms You May Notice

Dirty standing water remains in the tub at cycle end

Opening the door after a completed cycle reveals murky water sitting above the filter, and dishes are wet with food-streaked water rather than clean rinse water. The drain cycle did not complete.

Cycle pauses or terminates early with water in the sump

The control board monitors drain time. If the sump does not empty within the allowed window, F7 is logged and the cycle is halted mid-program, leaving the tub flooded.

Drain pump is audibly struggling or running without noise

A partially jammed impeller produces a grinding or buzzing sound during drain attempts. A fully seized pump is silent when power is applied to the drain motor.

Possible Causes

1

Drain pump impeller jammed by debris

Food debris, broken glass, jar labels, or small utensil components can pass through the filter and lodge in the drain pump impeller, preventing it from spinning. This is the most common cause of F7 on Bertazzoni dishwashers.

2

Drain hose kinked or not correctly high-looped

A kinked drain hose behind the unit, or a hose that lacks a high-loop before connecting to the sink drain, can severely restrict or completely block drain flow. A hose without a high-loop can also allow water to siphon back into the tub.

DIY Possible
3

Air gap or garbage disposal connection blocked

If the dishwasher drains through a sink air gap or into a garbage disposal, a blocked air gap cap or a garbage disposal knockout plug that was never removed can prevent proper drainage.

4

Drain pump motor winding failed

If the pump impeller is clear but there is no drain action, the motor winding itself may have failed. This requires motor replacement — a professional task.

Safe Checks You Can Do

These checks are safe for homeowners. No disassembly required. Do not remove panels or access internal components.
  1. 1

Clean the drain filter and sump area

Remove the lower spray arm and lift out the cylindrical and flat filter assemblies. Rinse both under running water and use a soft brush to remove food particles. While the filter is out, reach into the sump recess and check for any debris near the drain pump inlet.

A cocktail stick or tweezers can remove glass fragments or jar labels from the drain pump inlet without risking cuts. Never reach blindly into the pump recess.

  2. 2

    Check the drain hose routing

Pull the dishwasher forward slightly and trace the drain hose from the back of the unit to the sink drain connection. Confirm there are no kinks, and that the hose rises to at least 50 cm above the floor (the high-loop) before descending to the connection point.

Many installation issues arise when the dishwasher is pushed back after cleaning and the drain hose becomes trapped in a tight bend behind the plinth.

  3. 3

Test the air gap or garbage disposal connection

If your drain connects to an air gap, unscrew the chrome cap and check the internal cover for blockage — rinse if debris is found. If connecting to a garbage disposal, confirm the knockout plug was removed at installation and run the disposal briefly to clear any accumulated food.

A blocked air gap cap is one of the most commonly overlooked causes of dishwasher drain faults. The cap unscrews easily and takes 30 seconds to check.

When to Call a Professional

Contact a qualified technician if:

  • F7 returns after clearing the filter, confirming correct hose routing, and checking the air gap
  • Drain pump is completely silent during drain attempts despite power being applied
  • Pump impeller is clear but motor does not spin when tested
