Bertazzoni Cooktops H Error: Residual heat warning

What Does H Mean on a Bertazzoni Induction Cooktop? The H indicator on a Bertazzoni induction cooktop is a residual heat warning — it tells you the Vetroceramic glass surface is still above 60 °C and should not be touched. It is not a fault code. Your cooktop is working exactly as intended, protecting you […]

Quick Assessment

Answer to continue safely

Is it safe to keep using?

Yes. H is a normal safety indication confirming the surface is still too hot to touch. The cooktop is working correctly — simply avoid the indicated zone until H clears.

Can I reset the code?

No. The H indicator cannot be manually cleared. It turns off automatically when the surface temperature sensor reads below the threshold.

When to stop immediately?

Stop if you notice: H remains active for more than 2 hours with no zones having been used recently, Indicator never clears even overnight.

Symptoms You May Notice

Glass cooktop surface feels hot to the touch long after the zone was switched off

Although induction heats the pan rather than the glass directly, the hot cookware conducts heat into the Vetroceramic surface. The H indicator remains on until the glass drops below approximately 60 °C, which can take 30–60 minutes after high-heat cooking.

H persists for longer than expected even after a light cooking session

In a warm kitchen or with a heavy cast-iron pan that retains heat, the glass may stay above the threshold longer than usual. This is normal and does not indicate a fault.

Possible Causes

1

Normal conducted heat from cooking vessel

The hot pan conducts heat into the glass during and after cooking. The H indicator stays active until the surface temperature sensor reads below approximately 60 °C, which can take up to an hour after prolonged high-heat use.

DIY Possible
2

Defective surface NTC temperature sensor

A drifted or open-circuit NTC thermistor bonded beneath the Vetroceramic glass reads the surface as elevated long after the glass has cooled, keeping the H indicator active indefinitely.

Safe Checks You Can Do

These checks are safe for homeowners. No disassembly required. Do not remove panels or access internal components.
  1. 1

    Allow natural cooling

Turn off the zone and allow at least 45–60 minutes after heavy cooking. The H will extinguish on its own as the glass cools below 60 °C.

You can cook safely on other zones while H flashes on an unused one. Just avoid placing anything on the hot zone area while the indicator is active.

  2. 2

Check if H clears after extended cooling

If H remains on for more than 90 minutes with no zones active and the glass feels completely cool to the back of the hand, the surface temperature sensor may be defective.

A sensor problem is only a concern if the indicator never turns off — not if it simply takes longer than you expect.

When to Call a Professional

Contact a qualified technician if:

  • Surface temperature sensor reads elevated temperature when glass is clearly cool to the touch
  • NTC sensor measures open circuit or an out-of-range resistance value
  • Control board temperature input is stuck high in diagnostics
