Bertazzoni Wine Refrigeration / Wine Cellars POWER FAILURE Error: Power outage recorded

What Does Power Failure Mean? The Power Failure alarm on a Bertazzoni wine column — including Professional Series and Master Series built-in wine storage columns — fires when the unit detects that mains power was interrupted long enough for zone temperatures to rise. On restoration, the control board displays the peak temperature recorded in each […]

Quick Assessment

Answer to continue safely

Is it safe to keep using?

Maybe. The unit itself is safe to operate once power is restored and temperatures recover. The main concern is wine quality — a brief temperature excursion is rarely damaging, but sustained high temperatures during an extended outage may have affected delicate wines.

Can I reset the code?

Yes. Press the Alarm button once to silence the buzzer and clear the power-failure notification. The display returns to normal zone temperature readouts once both zones have recovered.

When to stop immediately?

Stop if you notice: Zone temperatures do not recover toward set point within 45 minutes of power restoration, Circuit breaker trips again immediately after being reset.

Symptoms You May Notice

Wine cabinet feels warmer than usual when you first open the door after power returns

Both the upper and lower zones of the wine column will feel noticeably warmer than their normal storage temperatures on the first door opening after a power event. Bottles near the glass door may show condensation as cool air meets the temporarily warmer glass.

Audible alarm activates as soon as power is restored

The control board triggers the buzzer on restoration to alert you immediately. Press the Alarm button to silence it and read the peak zone temperatures displayed.

Display shows peak temperatures for each zone rather than current readings

Instead of the normal set-point display, the control panel shows the highest temperature reached in each zone during the outage, letting you assess whether any wine experienced damaging heat exposure.

Possible Causes

1

Utility grid power outage

A neighbourhood or regional interruption cut supply for long enough for zone temperatures to rise measurably. The column resumes automatic operation and re-chills both zones once power is restored.

DIY Possible
2

Tripped dedicated circuit breaker

The breaker on the wine column's dedicated circuit may have tripped due to a surge. Locating and resetting the breaker restores power without further intervention.

3

Power cord disconnected from outlet

The power cord may have been pulled from the wall socket, interrupting supply without a grid event. Inspect the connection at the outlet and the rear of the unit.

Safe Checks You Can Do

These checks are safe for homeowners. No disassembly required. Do not remove panels or access internal components.
  1. 1

Check the circuit breaker and restore power

Go to your electrical panel and locate the breaker assigned to the wine column circuit. If tripped, switch it fully off then firmly back on. Confirm the column display powers on.

Bertazzoni wine columns require a dedicated circuit — confirm no other appliances share the same breaker to avoid repeat trips.

  2. 2

Record peak zone temperatures and assess wine risk

Press the Alarm button to silence the buzzer and read the peak temperature for each zone. A brief excursion above 65 °F (18 °C) is typically not damaging for short durations; sustained temperatures above 75 °F (24 °C) for more than a few hours can accelerate wine ageing.

Photograph the peak temperature display before pressing Alarm — temperature records can be useful if you need to assess wine storage conditions later.

  3. 3

Allow both zones to recover with the door closed

Keep the door closed for at least 45 minutes and confirm both zone temperatures are trending back toward their set points. Wine column recovery is slower than refrigerator recovery due to thermal mass of the bottles.

Do not open the door repeatedly to check — each opening slows recovery. Use the external temperature display instead.

When to Call a Professional

Contact a qualified technician if:

  • Breaker trips repeatedly with no other loads on the circuit — an electrical or appliance fault requires diagnosis
  • Column powers on but one or both zones fail to cool after 45 minutes — compressor or board fault suspected
