Bertazzoni Wine Refrigeration / Wine Cellars CHECK CONDENSER Error: Condenser clean reminder
What Does Check condenser Mean? The Check condenser reminder — displayed as “Check Cond” on Bertazzoni wine column control panels — is a scheduled maintenance notification built into the Professional Series and Master Series wine column software. It appears every six months to prompt you to clean the finned condenser coil behind the toe-kick grille. […]
Quick Assessment
Answer to continue safely
Is it safe to keep using?
Yes. This is a routine maintenance reminder, not a fault. Both wine zones are cooling normally. Clean the condenser at your earliest convenience to maintain the stable temperatures your wine collection deserves.
Can I reset the code?
Yes. Hold the Enter button for 3 seconds after cleaning to reset the six-month counter and clear the reminder from the display.
When to stop immediately?
Stop if you notice: A zone-too-warm alarm appears alongside the condenser reminder — fouling has already degraded cooling performance beyond the maintenance threshold.
Symptoms You May Notice
Compressor run times are longer and zone temperatures are slightly harder to maintain in warm ambient conditions
A fouled condenser coil makes the refrigerant circuit work harder to reject heat. In a warm kitchen or during summer months you may notice both zones running slightly warmer than their set points during the hottest part of the day — a sign the condenser needs attention.
Maintenance reminder appears on the control panel display
The control board displays "Check Cond" after the six-month maintenance counter elapses. An optional audible tone may accompany the reminder depending on notification settings configured on the unit.
Possible Causes
Dust and debris accumulated on the condenser coil fins
Household dust, kitchen airborne grease, and pet hair accumulate on the finned condenser coil behind the toe-kick grille over six months of normal operation, insulating the fins and reducing heat-rejection efficiency.
DIY PossibleSix-month maintenance counter elapsed without reset
The control board's internal timer reached six months since the last manual reset. The reminder fires on schedule regardless of the actual coil condition.
DIY PossibleSafe Checks You Can Do
-
1
Remove the toe-kick grille and clean the condenser coil
Pull the toe-kick cover from the base of the wine column. Using a soft-bristle condenser brush followed by a vacuum with a brush attachment, clean all visible dust and debris from the finned condenser coil. Replace the grille when done.
Kitchen installations near a cooktop collect more grease than installations in a pantry or butler's kitchen — if that describes your setup, clean every 4 months rather than every 6.
-
2
Reset the maintenance counter via the Enter button
After cleaning, press and hold the Enter button on the control panel for 3 seconds until the reminder clears and the counter restarts the six-month countdown.
On some REF24WCBPNV and REF18WCBPRV models the reset is accessed through the Settings menu — check your user manual if the Enter-button hold does not clear the reminder.
When to Call a Professional
Contact a qualified technician if:
- Zone temperatures remain difficult to maintain in normal ambient conditions even after a thorough condenser clean — condenser fan motor or refrigerant charge may require professional inspection
