ZLINE Gas Range Carbon Monoxide Recall 2023 | CPSC 23-028

The ZLINE gas range carbon monoxide recall (CPSC Recall 23-028) was announced on January 26, 2023, covering approximately 28,000 ZLINE professional-style gas ranges sold between February 2019 and December 2022. Note: this recall affects ZLINE-branded units only. It is included here as a critical category-level advisory for all luxury professional gas range owners, including Bertazzoni Pro Series and Master Series range owners, because the oven combustion failure mode (incomplete burning producing dangerous CO levels) is a potential risk for any high-BTU residential gas range.

Hazard

The oven compartment of the recalled ZLINE gas ranges can emit dangerous levels of carbon monoxide (CO) during use, posing a serious risk of injury or death from carbon monoxide poisoning. ZLINE received 44 reports of carbon monoxide emission prior to the recall, including three reports of consumers seeking medical attention. After the initial recall and repair attempt, 131 additional consumers reported that the ranges still emitted dangerous CO levels following the repair — prompting an expanded remedy including full replacement or refund.

How to identify

For ZLINE owners, the model number is on a label on the back panel of the range or inside the storage drawer at the bottom. For all luxury gas range owners — including Bertazzoni — the range model and serial number plate is typically located on the back of the unit or on the side frame visible when the storage drawer is removed. Bertazzoni owners should contact Bertazzoni directly if they suspect any CO emission from their oven.

What to do

  1. If you own a ZLINE range with one of the listed model numbers, stop using the oven compartment immediately
  2. Install a carbon monoxide detector in your kitchen if you do not already have one — this is advisable for any household with a gas range
  3. ZLINE owners should contact ZLINE at 833-195-5463 for remedy options including free replacement range or refund
  4. Bertazzoni gas range owners who notice any symptoms of CO exposure (headache, dizziness, nausea while cooking) should ventilate the kitchen immediately, leave the building, and call 911
  5. For Bertazzoni-specific oven service or inspection, call 1-866-905-0010

Urgency level

High. Carbon monoxide is colorless and odorless, and exposure can be fatal. Any household with a professional gas range — including Bertazzoni — should maintain a working CO detector. ZLINE owners must contact ZLINE immediately for a free replacement or refund.
