Bertazzoni Ranges FAULT-CLEAN-STOP Error: Self-clean cancelled early
What Does FAULT-CLEAN-STOP Mean? FAULT-CLEAN-STOP is a silent indicator-light state on older Bertazzoni Professional Series ranges. It occurs when one or both rotary selectors are moved out of the CLEAN position while a self-clean cycle is running. The CLEAN LED flashes without any alarm tone — the absence of a buzzer distinguishes it from a […]
Quick Assessment
Answer to continue safely
Is it safe to keep using?
No. The oven is safe to use again as soon as the door unlocks after cooldown and the fault is cleared with a power-cycle. This is a routine notification, not a component failure.
Can I reset the code?
Yes. The fault clears automatically once the oven cools and the door unlocks. A 2-minute circuit breaker power-cycle after cooldown removes the flashing CLEAN indicator.
When to stop immediately?
Stop if you notice: Door does not unlock after 90 minutes of cooling, Burning smell from the oven cavity after the selector was moved.
Symptoms You May Notice
Oven door stays locked after the selector is turned away from CLEAN
Moving either the function or temperature selector during a self-clean cycle does not immediately unlock the door — the latch motor holds the door closed until the cavity temperature drops to the safe threshold.
CLEAN indicator flashes with no buzzer sound
The LED pulses silently rather than with an alarm tone, distinguishing this operator-initiated cancellation from the power-loss version of the fault (FAULT-CLEAN) which includes an audible alarm.
Oven will not accept a new cooking function until the door unlocks
The control board blocks all cooking modes while the door latch is engaged, preventing the oven from being used for normal cooking until the cavity has cooled and the latch retracts.
Possible Causes
Selector accidentally moved during self-clean
One or both rotary selectors were bumped or turned out of the CLEAN position while the cycle was active, signalling the control board to terminate cleaning while the cavity was still above 500 °F.
DIY PossibleDeliberate early cancellation of self-clean cycle
The owner intentionally ended the cycle before it completed — the door latch remains engaged as a safety measure and will not release until the oven cools regardless of selector position.
DIY PossibleSafe Checks You Can Do
-
1
Wait for the oven to cool below 500 °F
Leave the oven powered with the selectors set to OFF and allow 30–60 minutes for the cavity temperature to drop. The door latch will retract automatically once the thermostat detects a safe temperature — no button presses are needed.
The cooling fans may continue to run during this period — this is normal and expected behaviour.
-
2
Power-cycle to clear the flashing indicator
After the door has opened and the oven has fully cooled to room temperature, switch the circuit breaker off for 2 minutes and restore power to clear the CLEAN fault flag from the control board.
This is a low-severity reminder state — no component has failed and no service call is needed if the door opened normally.
When to Call a Professional
Contact a qualified technician if:
- Door latch does not release after a full cooldown cycle
- CLEAN indicator continues flashing even after a power-cycle reset with the door open
