Bertazzoni Range Hoods S1-LED-FLASH Error: KIN hood grease filter alert

What Does S1-LED-FLASH Mean? S1-LED-FLASH is the grease filter saturation reminder on Bertazzoni KIN-series insert range hoods. When the S1 LED begins flashing, the hood’s internal operating-hour counter has reached the filter cleaning threshold — the aluminum mesh grease filters need washing. The hood continues to run at all speeds while the reminder is active, […]

Quick Assessment

Answer to continue safely

Is it safe to keep using?

No. This is a maintenance reminder — the KIN-series insert hood is fully operational while S1 is flashing. Clean the filters and reset the counter at your earliest convenience to restore full suction performance.

Can I reset the code?

Yes. Hold button T3 for 3 seconds with the fan off to reset the counter. The S1 LED flashes three times to confirm a successful reset.

When to stop immediately?

Stop if you notice: Grease dripping from the hood body during cooking — filters require immediate cleaning, Smoke from the hood motor area during high-speed operation.

Symptoms You May Notice

Airflow from the hood is noticeably reduced and the kitchen takes longer to clear of cooking smoke

Grease-clogged mesh filters restrict air passage through the hood, reducing suction at all speed settings and causing cooking smoke and odours to linger longer than when filters are clean.

S1 LED on the control panel flashes to indicate filters need cleaning

The flashing S1 LED is a maintenance notification specific to KIN-series insert hoods — the hood continues to operate normally at all speeds while the indicator is active.

Indicator persists until T3 is held for 3 seconds after filter cleaning

The S1 reminder does not reset automatically after cleaning — holding button T3 for at least 3 seconds causes the LED to flash three times to confirm the counter has been reset.

Possible Causes

1

Electronic saturation counter reached the filter-cleaning threshold

The KIN-series hood tracks operating hours and triggers the S1 reminder when the grease filter cleaning threshold is reached based on accumulated fan-on time.

DIY Possible
2

Grease filters physically blocked with accumulated cooking grease

Consistent use for frying, searing, or heavy stovetop cooking builds up grease faster in the mesh, triggering reduced airflow and the S1 reminder before the full counter threshold is reached.

Safe Checks You Can Do

These checks are safe for homeowners. No disassembly required. Do not remove panels or access internal components.
  1. 1

Remove and clean the mesh grease filters

Switch the KIN-series hood motor off and release the filter retention clips to remove the aluminum mesh grease filters. Wash in hot water with degreasing dish soap, or place on the lower rack of the dishwasher. Allow the filters to dry completely before reinstalling.

On KIN-series insert hoods the grease filter clips release by pressing inward — do not twist or pull sideways, as the plastic retention clips can snap if forced.

  2. 2

Reset the S1 counter using button T3

With the fan motor off and the clean, dry filters reinstalled, press and hold button T3 for at least 3 full seconds. The S1 LED will flash three times to confirm the reset — release T3 after the three flashes.

If the T3 hold does not produce three flashes, confirm the fan motor is completely off — the reset function on KIN-series hoods is disabled while the motor is running.

When to Call a Professional

Contact a qualified technician if:

  • S1 LED does not extinguish after the T3 reset with fan off and clean filters installed
  • Hood suction does not improve after filter cleaning — motor or housing may have a blockage
