The LG electric range front knob inadvertent activation recall (2025) was initiated by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission covering LG front-mount control knob ranges sold from 2015 onward. Note: this recall affects LG-branded electric ranges. It is included here as a supporting category-level safety advisory for all range owners with front-mounted control knobs, including Bertazzoni Professional Series, Master Series, and Heritage Series gas ranges, which share the front-knob design topology at the center of this hazard pattern.
Hazard
The front-mounted control knobs on affected LG ranges can be turned on inadvertently by accidental contact from a person, pet, or item brushing past the range. The CPSC received at least 86 reports of unintentional activation. The affected ranges have been involved in more than 28 fires, at least five causing extensive property damage totaling more than $340,000. At least eight minor injuries including burns were reported, and at least three fires resulted in the deaths of pets.
Affected units
- Brand: LG Electronics USA
- Product type: Electric ranges with front-mounted control knobs (slide-in and freestanding models)
- Manufacturing period covered: 2015 onward (see CPSC recall notice for specific model list)
- Sold through: Best Buy, Home Depot, Lowe’s, and other major appliance retailers nationwide
How to identify
LG ranges included in this recall have control knobs on the front face of the range rather than on a rear control panel. For Bertazzoni owners: all Bertazzoni freestanding and slide-in ranges use front-panel knobs in the traditional Italian professional range style. Inspect all knobs to confirm they require deliberate downward push-and-turn engagement (a push-to-activate safety mechanism) before rotating to an “on” position. Ranges without push-to-activate knob locks present a higher inadvertent activation risk.
What to do
- LG range owners should contact LG Electronics at 800-243-0000 to determine if their specific model is included and to request the available remedy
- For any front-knob range — including Bertazzoni — always confirm all knobs are in the OFF position before leaving the kitchen and before going to bed
- Households with children under age 6 or with pets should install a protective knob guard or knob cover kit as an additional safety layer
- Never store flammable items (dish towels, oven mitts, paper bags, plastic bags) on or directly adjacent to the cooktop surface or control knobs
- For Bertazzoni range safety inspections or knob replacement, call 1-866-905-0010
Urgency level
High for LG range owners covered by this recall — contact LG Electronics for remedy options. Moderate ongoing advisory for Bertazzoni and other professional-style gas range owners with front-mounted knobs — confirm that knobs require push-to-activate engagement and consider knob guards in households with children or pets.
