Samsung Slide-In Range Front Knob Recall 2024 | CPSC Fire Hazard

The Samsung slide-in electric range front knob recall (2024) was announced by Samsung and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission in August 2024, covering more than 1.12 million Samsung slide-in electric ranges. Note: this recall affects Samsung-branded electric ranges only. It is included here as a critical category-level advisory for all owners of ranges with front-mounted control knobs — including Bertazzoni Professional Series, Master Series, and Heritage Series gas ranges, all of which use front-mounted control knobs that can be contacted by passing individuals, pets, or clothing.

Hazard

The front-mounted burner control knobs on the recalled Samsung ranges can be turned on inadvertently by accidental contact from a person, a pet, or loose clothing brushing past the range. Once a burner is unintentionally activated, a fire can start if anything nearby is flammable. The CPSC received more than 300 reports of unintentional burner activation since 2013, including more than 28 fires, five causing extensive property damage totaling more than $340,000, eight minor injuries including burns, and at least three fires that resulted in the deaths of pets.

Affected units

  • Brand: Samsung (Samsung Electronics America)
  • Product type: Slide-in electric ranges with front-mounted control knobs
  • Units affected: More than 1.12 million
  • Sold through: Best Buy, Home Depot, Lowe’s, and other major appliance retailers nationwide

How to identify

Samsung slide-in ranges with front-mounted control knobs are identified by having the burner control knobs located on the front fascia of the range, rather than on a raised rear control panel. For Bertazzoni ranges: the Professional Series (PRO), Master Series (MAS), and Heritage Series (HER) gas ranges all use traditional Italian-style front-mounted control knobs. Check that no knob can be rotated to an “on” position by light lateral contact or by a child, pet, or garment brushing against it.

What to do

  1. Samsung owners should contact Samsung at 800-726-7864 for remedy options including a free protective knob cover kit
  2. For any range with front-mounted knobs — including Bertazzoni — install a child-safety knob guard or knob cover kit to prevent inadvertent activation, especially in households with young children or pets
  3. Establish a habit of visually confirming all burner knobs are in the OFF position when leaving the kitchen, even briefly
  4. Ensure no items stored near or above the range can fall and contact the control knobs
  5. For Bertazzoni range knob safety accessories or a professional inspection, call 1-866-905-0010

Urgency level

High for Samsung slide-in range owners — contact Samsung for the free knob cover kit. Moderate ongoing advisory for all range owners with front-mounted knobs including Bertazzoni Professional, Master, and Heritage Series — consider protective knob covers and establish a consistent knob-check habit when leaving the kitchen.
