Frigidaire Gas Cooktop Control Knob Recall 2023 | CPSC Fire Hazard

The Frigidaire gas cooktop control knob recall (2023) was announced by the Electrolux Group in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, covering Frigidaire 30-inch (model FFGC3026SS) and 36-inch (model FFGC3626SS) gas cooktops with black-shaft plastic control knobs. Note: this recall affects Frigidaire/Electrolux-branded units only. It is included here as a category-level advisory for all gas cooktop and rangetop owners, including Bertazzoni gas rangetop owners, because plastic-shaft knob cracking is a documented failure mode in gas cooktop designs across manufacturers — and a cracked or broken gas knob can cause uncontrolled gas release on any brand.

Hazard

The plastic control knobs on the affected Frigidaire gas cooktops can crack or break during normal use. A cracked or broken knob can allow the gas valve to shift to the open position unintentionally, posing a risk of gas leak and fire. Electrolux Group received 63 reports of control knobs cracking or breaking prior to the recall, including one report of a minor injury from a gas leak and one report of a fire.

Affected units

  • Brand: Frigidaire (Electrolux Group)
  • Model numbers: FFGC3026SS (30-inch, 4-burner) and FFGC3626SS (36-inch, 5-burner)
  • Identifying feature: Control knobs with black shafts
  • Sold through: Appliance retailers nationwide

How to identify

Frigidaire cooktop model numbers are printed on a label visible under the cooktop grate, on the underside of the cooktop frame, or on the installation manual cover page. On any gas cooktop — including Bertazzoni rangetops — inspect the control knobs for visible cracks, chips, or looseness in the shaft. Bertazzoni gas rangetops use die-cast metal knobs with metal or reinforced plastic shafts; any sign of looseness, difficult rotation, or cracking in the knob body should be reported to a technician before the appliance is used again.

What to do

  1. Frigidaire owners with model FFGC3026SS or FFGC3626SS should contact Electrolux Group for a free replacement knob kit — call 800-374-4432
  2. Inspect the control knobs on your gas cooktop or rangetop monthly for any visible cracking, chipping, or looseness
  3. If any knob on your cooktop — regardless of brand — is cracked or broken, turn off the gas supply valve and do not use the cooktop until the knob is replaced
  4. Bertazzoni gas rangetop owners should use only genuine Bertazzoni replacement knobs — third-party knobs may not seat correctly on the valve stem, creating a gas flow risk
  5. For Bertazzoni rangetop knob replacement or gas safety inspection, call 1-866-905-0010

Urgency level

High for Frigidaire FFGC3026SS and FFGC3626SS owners — contact Electrolux immediately. Moderate ongoing advisory for all gas cooktop and rangetop owners including Bertazzoni — inspect control knobs regularly and replace any cracked or damaged knobs before the appliance is used.
