Bertazzoni Refrigerators CHECK CONDENSER Error: Condenser clean reminder
What Does Check condenser Mean? The Check condenser reminder — displayed as “Check Cond” on most Bertazzoni refrigerator columns — is a scheduled maintenance prompt built into the control software of the Professional Series and Master Series built-in columns. It appears every six months to remind you to clean the finned condenser coil located behind […]
Quick Assessment
Answer to continue safely
Is it safe to keep using?
Yes. This is a scheduled maintenance reminder, not a fault. The unit is cooling normally. Clean the condenser at your earliest convenience to maintain peak efficiency — there is no urgency to stop using the appliance.
Can I reset the code?
Yes. Press and hold the Enter button for 3 seconds after cleaning the condenser to reset the 6-month maintenance counter and clear the reminder from the display.
When to stop immediately?
Stop if you notice: Unit begins displaying a "Fridge too warm" or "Freezer too warm" alarm alongside the condenser reminder — this indicates the fouling has already degraded cooling performance.
Symptoms You May Notice
Compressor runs noticeably longer between cycles than it used to
As condenser coil fouling builds up over time, the refrigerant system must work harder to reject heat. You may notice the compressor running for longer stretches before cycling off, especially in warm weather.
Maintenance reminder appears on the control panel display
The control board displays "Check Cond" (or similar) on the panel after the 6-month maintenance counter elapses. An optional audible tone may also sound depending on the notification settings.
Possible Causes
Dust and pet hair on the condenser coil fins
The finned condenser coil located behind the toe-kick grille at the base of the unit accumulates household dust, cooking grease, and pet hair over time, insulating the fins and reducing their ability to transfer heat to the room air.
DIY PossibleMaintenance interval counter elapsed without reset
The control board counts six months from the last manual reset via the Enter button. If the coil was cleaned but the counter was not reset, the reminder will reappear at the correct interval regardless.
DIY PossibleSafe Checks You Can Do
-
1
Remove the toe-kick grille and vacuum the condenser coil
Pull the toe-kick cover off (it clips on most Bertazzoni columns — no tools required). Using a vacuum with a soft brush attachment, clean the finned condenser coil from front to back, removing all visible dust and debris. Replace the grille.
A stiff-bristle condenser brush (available online for a few dollars) reaches between the fins more effectively than a vacuum alone. Do this in two passes — brush first, then vacuum.
-
2
Reset the maintenance counter via the Enter button
After cleaning, press and hold the Enter button on the control panel for 3 seconds until the reminder clears. The counter restarts its 6-month countdown from this point.
On some Bertazzoni models the reset sequence is accessed through the Settings menu — refer to the user manual for your specific column model if the Enter-button hold does not clear the reminder.
